Haldighati’s Chaitri Gulab – A Fragrant Legacy

In the historic valley of Haldighati, where tales of courage still linger, blooms a rare rose that speaks of purity and tradition — the Chaitri Gulab. These delicate pink roses blossom only once a year in the spring month of Chaitra, making them truly special.

Grown naturally and hand-harvested with care, these roses are distilled using age-old techniques to create pure rose water (gulab jal) — known for its healing, cooling, and calming properties. From refreshing rose sharbat to soothing gulkand, every product is crafted by local hands and rooted in generations of knowledge.

Haldighati is a significant historical site located in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It is a mountain pass in the Aravalli Range, connecting the districts of Rajsamand and Pali. This iconic location lies at a convenient distance of approximately 40 kilometers from Udaipur, making it easily accessible for visitors interested in history and heritage.

It holds a prominent place in Indian history as the site of the famous Battle of Haldighati fought in 1576 between Maharana Pratap and the Mughal forces led by Man Singh.

The area around Badshahi Bagh is now renowned for the large-scale cultivation of roses, especially the Chaitri rose variety. These pink roses bloom only during the Hindu month of Chaitra (approximately March–April), which is how they get their name. Haldighati, in particular, has emerged as a major center for Chaitri rose farming.

These fragrant roses are primarily used in the production of perfumes, rose sharbat (syrup), rose juice, gulkand (sweet rose preserve), and rose water, making the region a hub for rose-based products.

Today, Haldighati presents a surprising blend of history and nature. The valley, once stained by the blood of battle, now blooms with vibrant roses. Rows of colourful boards line the road, tempting visitors to explore and purchase a variety of rose-based products.

Roses now flourish where once swords clashed, making Haldighati not only a site of historical reverence but also a symbol of beauty and renewal.
